Can architects create value in a tunnel no one sees?
For the past 15 years, the Schønherr landscape architecture firm has been part of the Femern project. But how can architects create value in a tunnel buried 40 meters of water, rocks, and gravel?
In 2008, during the financial crisis, a medium-sized Danish architectural firm received an invitation.
"Would you like to participate in the bidding for the new Femern Belt Fixed Link?"
The Schønherr architectural firm said "yes" and became a small group of architects in the midst of an international team of major engineering companies, including Rambøll, Arup, and TEC.
